My favorite day of the school year when I was little was the day of the book fair. Did anyone else have the Scholastic team come to their school and set up shop? I would BEG my mom to buy me like 400 books and would be super bummed when she shot me down and let me pick one. But now that I’m older and make my OWN mon-aaaay, I can buy as many books as I want- except now I have no time to read them!

Working in film means I spend a lot of my reading time diving into scripts. While it sounds cool in theory, nothing is better than curling up with a good book. Realizing a lot of my friends have this same issue, my roommate started a book club and now I want to include you!! No need to live in LA to join, just hop into the comments to let me know what you think of the books!
The first rule of book club is: You do not talk about book club. LOL jokes, I had to throw in at least one fight club joke, I really had to. But for real, we do have rules in this book club. We keep it strictly women and that’s my favorite part, no offense fellas! Sometimes you just want your girl gang. Also, we have a system of whoever picks the book for the next month also hosts the meeting at their house. This ensures that everyone has say in what were reading but also that were not making everyone drive to one side of town each time- we switch it up!

So at last month’s meeting we read a real page-turner that I enjoyed immensely. WHERE’D YA GO, BERNADETTE by Maria Semple was a funny, sarcastic and heart-warming book that really dove into relationships between mothers and daughters and relationships between mothers and other mothers. Without spoiling too much of the book, I will let you know that I could not consume this book fast enough. I had to know where Bernadette went!!

The other majorly cool thing about this book is that it’s in the process of being turned into a movie starring Cate Blanchett and Kristen Wiig. I am a real sucker for a book about to become a movie because I find it so cool to compare how I visualized it all in my head vs. how the filmmakers portray it. Find more information on the book here and buy it here. I mean, the cover is so cute, how could not NEED to read it too?

So let me know below what you thought of WHERE’D YA GO, BERNADETTE and if you will be seeing the movie when it comes out this fall!

**Next month’s pick is THE DEFINING DECADE by Meg Jay. Changing it up a bit with a self help book. More information on it here and you can buy it here.
